CALL FOR WRITER SUBMISSIONS
SHORT AUDIO OR VIDEO (2-7 minutes)
ORIGINAL WORK
We are looking for LGBT2SQ writers to submit original work that we can share online - and we will pay you for it!
Glad Day Lit is looking for short original AUDIO or VIDEO recordings to share during the holiday season. They should be minimum 2 minutes and maximum 7 minutes in length. It can be in English, French or ASL.
Writing is a very broad term.
The audio or video piece could be:
- Poetry
- Spoken Word
- A fiction reading (any genre)
- A non-fiction reading (memoir or personal essay preferred)
- Theatre or Screenplays
- Comedy
- Lyrics read or sung
- and we are open to other ideas
Topics & Themes:
We are looking for pieces on one or more of these topics:
- Family
- Ritual
- New Beginnings
- Tradition
- Looking Forward, Looking Back
- Solstice
- Rebirth
How it will be shared:
We will share your piece in one or more of the following ways:
1) As part of a 1 hour broadcast streamed on Dec 24, 25, 26, 31 or Jan 1.
2) As individual pieces on our social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube)
How it works:
You apply to be chosen as one of the featured writers.
We contact you by December 16th to confirm you have been selected.
You have until December 21st to submit your audio or video piece. Note: If you submit an audio piece, we will probably create some original video to go with your audio piece.
We pay you by January 20th; if you need funds sooner, that may be possible.
Who is eligible:
Any Canadian resident.
People who identify as members of the LGBT2SQ community.
New and emerging writers are welcome to apply.
You must be the creator of the work and have the rights to your work.
How much it pays:
We will let you know how much you will get paid if you are chosen. Rates are based on the level of profile of the writer, not the length of the piece. For example, someone with name recognition who has published multiple books will be paid more than someone who has self-published one book.
Audio pieces will pay $75-$300, video pieces will pay $150-$400.
If you submit a video that has subtitles of what you are saying, you will get an additional $50.
Usage Rights:
You will agree to give Glad Day Lit rights to share this recording on all our current and future digital platforms for 10 years. Glad Day Lit will not sell copies of your work. You will retain all creative and intellectual rights to your work and you can use the original recording any way you want. If there is ever a time where the direct or indirect revenue from your work exceeds $200, Glad Day will contact you and re-negotiate usage rights; this could incidentally occur from things like ads placed by YouTube on our channel (which, honestly, is unlikely).
The piece you submit needs to be currently unpublished in print form or digital periodical.
Submissions:
If you are selected, we will send you information on how and what format to submit.
You will need to submit a word file of your work along with audio or video.
